s01e06 warehouses & DCs

what happens in a big shed

· s01-logistics101,theLMNpodcast

Distribution centers are like giant pantries. We go to the super market (a supplier) to buy something (inventory), bring (transport) it home (to the warehouse), put it into the pantry (accomplished by anyone's standard home warehouse receiving process), then when cooking dinner (a production process) take the what we need and send it out again (which in logistics terms is: the value adding processes to inventory followed by last mile delivery to the end customer - i.e. sliding a dinner plate over to your under-appreciative child)

In this episode of the LMN podcast we talk about many things such as: Whisky Sauce, bananas, as well as the nuts and bolts of having something in stock then sending it out again.
